Açaí, which a few years ago conquered the palate of most Brazilians who were not yet so familiar with the fruit, has been gaining more and more space in the international market as well.
The fruit is originally from Brazil and it is cultivated mainly in the North region of the country, its production is associated with the tradition of indigenous and riverside peoples in this part of Brazil.
Data indicate that in the last 10 years, with the popularization of the domestic market and the increase in exports of the fruit, açaí shipments grew by around 15.000%. The Brazilian state of Pará represents almost 95% of fruit exports in the country, then Amazonas and Roraima also help compose this ranking.
But after all, how much does Brazil export and to where?
The most recent data show that the main importers of Brazilian açaí cream were the United States, Japan and Portugal, totaling almost US$800.000 in 2021.
While açaí pulp, shipments totaled US$6.5 million last year, with the United Arab Emirates, United States and Netherlands being the main destinations.
Finally, exports of açaí powder, the main highlight of Brazilian shipments, reached approximately US$20 million and were destined for the United States, Russia and Peru.
