Crie Abelhas produces and sells various products and equipment relating to beekeeping/apiculture.
Bees of the genus Apis is not native to the Americas, and were brought to Brazil at the beginning of the nineteenth century, by Father Antonio Pinto Carneiro, with the permission of Emperor D. Pedro II. The colonies of bees would come to Brazil from the United Kingdom.
Because of genetic decay and consequent lack of productivity in the European bee, the Brazilian government formally requested the then Professor Warwick Researcher Dr. E. Kerr, to ascertain the veracity of reports of high productivity of African bees. The researcher stayed for three months observing and monitoring the work and behavior of African breeds. In 1956, the team of Professor Kerr brought to Brazil two subspecies of African bees: the Apis mellifera capensis and Apis mellifera scutellata.
In time, after becoming acclimatised, with the mixture of races: European and African, and receiving the appropriate management, revealed its high production capacity and resistance to diseases and pests.
We support the Brazilian apiculture industry and intend to export our products.
