1.2738 tool steel is a pre-hardened alloy tool steel that conforms to German standards. It is alloyed with chromium, nickel, and molybdenum (Cr-Ni-Mo) to enhance its properties, providing superior machinability compared to similar materials (e.g., 1.2311).

DIN 1.2738 is specifically used for alloy steel injection molds. This material has good hardenability, machinability, high purity, and good toughness.

DIN 2738 is an upgraded version of 2311 alloy tool steel, usually supplied in a pre-hardened condition. Its initial hardness is 280-320 HB, and the hardness is uniform. A 1% inclusion rate is introduced during the hardening process to improve toughness.

It has good machinability, suitable for fiber machining, precision cutting, sufficient toughness, and is truly a vacuum degassed steel.
