Coast-Cross hay is a roughage feed alternative of good nutritional quality suitable for the composition of the diet of animals. Associated with energy sources such as corn silage, sorghum silage or sugarcane, it can substantially reduce the need for the use of concentrated feeds, reflecting on the cost of milk production. Studies conducted by Embrapa Dairy Cattle show that 40 to 60% of the cost of milk production comes from feed expenses. In herds with animals with higher milk production, the expenditure on concentrated feed is significant, especially when the producer does not have good quality roughage feed.
