Maqui Berry is a purple fruit that grows abundantly in the fields and hillsides of the South of Chile. Maqui plant has greenish-white flowers that produce an edible fruit (the maqui Berry). These small berries are also known as Chilean wineberry, since in Chile used to give color to the wine. It is also used to make jams and juice. Maqui contains 300% more anthocyanins and 150% more polyphenols than any other food or drink known, including wine. The antioxidant components that are found abundantly in the Berry maqui are mainly flavonoids called anthocyanins and polyphenols. To be ingested by humans, the anthocyanins act against the signs of aging and contribute to cardiovascular health, the healthy metabolism of azucar-insulina, reduces the odds of cancer cell generation and allergic reactions .
