🔹 1. Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)
Definition:
OPC is the most common type of cement used worldwide. It is made by grinding clinker and gypsum and contains no pozzolanic materials.

Main Grades (as per EN 197-1 / ASTM / SABS / BIS):

OPC 32.5 – General construction

OPC 42.5 – Standard structural work

OPC 52.5 – High-strength structures

Composition:

Clinker: 95–100%

Gypsum: 3–5%

Properties:

High early strength

Faster setting time

Higher heat of hydration

Applications:

High-rise buildings

Roads, bridges, flyovers

Precast concrete, reinforced structures

RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete)

🔹 2. Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC)
Definition:
PPC is a blended cement made by mixing OPC clinker with pozzolanic materials such as fly ash, calcined clay, or volcanic ash.

Typical Grade:

Comparable to OPC 33 / OPC 42.5 in compressive strength

Long-term strength development is higher

Composition:

Clinker: 45–65%

Pozzolanic Material: 15–35%

Gypsum: 3–5%

Properties:

Low heat of hydration

Better workability

Higher resistance to chemical attack and corrosion

Better long-term strength gain

Applications:

Dams, marine structures, sewage works

Mass concrete works

Residential buildings

Brick/block masonry
