"Sodium hydroxide or caustic soda, also known as lye due to its caustic properties, is an inorganic ionic compound with the chemical formula NaOH. It is used as a base in many industries and applications. This includes but is not limited to pH adjustment, soaps and detergents, salt making, electrolysis, etc. It is made by the electrolysis of brine. Chlorine gas is a by-product of this reaction. Usually caustic soda manufacturers are involved.
