Kaplan Turbine also called axial-flow turbine. It is of the propeller type, similar to an airplane propeller. Its water head is from 5m to 70m. Thus, this types of turbine is mostly used to hydropower stations with low water head and big flow. The kaplan's blades are adjustable for pitch and will handle a great variation of flow very efficiently. Generally, Kaplan turbine is composed of distribuor, guide vane, runner, draft etc.

Unlike other types of propeller turbine, the runner blades are movable. The guide vanes could also be turned and were automatically adjusted to any angle suitable to that of the blades by a combiner, so the turbine was efficient at different work-loads.
