In 1964, Ibiraiaras also Red Lake District, had an estimated population of seven thousand inhabitants, primarily of small landowners. Conditions did not exist for access to incentives or assistance to agriculture. The District lacked roads, media, and the great difficulty in the marketing of agricultural production, including: the CORN, WHEAT and PIGS.
With this, a group of rural landowners, along with local leaders, developed the idea of creating a cooperative of farmers, as a way to solve the main problems and organize the development of primary sector Ibiraiaras. The idea materialized on May 9, 1964 by a group of 65 farmers who founded AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE JOINT IBIRAIARAS LTDA. - COOPIBI, with the ultimate goal of organizing and expanding agriculture in the region. The emergence of the Cooperative brought encouragement and expansion to regional and local agriculture, which now has key role in this context, storing and marketing the production of its members by providing agricultural inputs, consumer goods and use, coupled with the provision of services technical agricultural assistance.
