Aluminum alloy power cable is a new type of material power cable with AA8030 series aluminum alloy material as the conductor, and adopts advanced technology such as special roll-forming profile stranding production process and annealing treatment. The alloy power cable makes up for the shortcomings of the pure aluminum cable in the past, although the conductivity of the cable is not improved, but the bending performance, creep resistance and corrosion resistance are greatly improved, which can ensure that the cable maintains continuous performance stability when overloaded and overheated for a long time, and the AA-8030 series aluminum alloy conductor can greatly improve the conductivity and high temperature resistance of the aluminum alloy cable, and at the same time solve the problems of pure aluminum conductor and creep. The conductivity of aluminium alloy is 61.8% of that of the most commonly used benchmark material, copper IACS, and the current carrying capacity is 79% of copper, which is better than the pure aluminum standard. But at the same volume, the actual weight of aluminum alloy is about one-third that of copper. Therefore, the weight of aluminum alloy cables is about half that of copper cables at the same current carrying capacity. Replacing copper cables with aluminum alloy cables can reduce the weight of the cable, reduce the installation cost, reduce the wear and tear of equipment and cables, and make the installation work easier.
Creep resistance
The alloying material and annealing process of aluminum alloy conductors reduce the "creep" tendency of the conductor under heat and pressure, and the creep resistance is increased by 300% compared to pure aluminum, avoiding relaxation problems caused by cold flow or creep. [4]
Tensile strength and elongation
Compared with pure aluminum conductors, aluminum alloy conductors greatly improve their tensile strength, elongation to 30%, flexibility is 33% higher than copper, and elasticity is 40% lower due to the addition of special components and special processing technology, making it more safe and reliable to use. Coefficient of thermal expansion
The coefficient of thermal expansion is used to calculate the dimensional change of a material when the temperature changes. Aluminum alloys have a coefficient of thermal expansion comparable to copper, and aluminum connectors have been reliably used for copper and aluminum conductors for many years, and most of the electrical connectors in use today are made of aluminum, which is especially suitable for aluminum alloys. Therefore, the expansion and contraction of the aluminum alloy conductor and the connector are exactly the same. [4]
Connectivity performance
Electrical connections made of aluminum alloys are as safe and stable as connections made of copper conductors. The composition of the aluminum alloy greatly improves its connection properties, and when the conductor is annealed, the added iron produces high-strength creep resistance, which guarantees a stable connection even when overloaded and overheated for a long time. Aluminum alloy improves the tensile strength of pure aluminum, aluminum alloy cable can support the self-weight of 4000 meters in length, copper cable can only support 2750 meters. This advantage is particularly evident when wiring long-span buildings, such as stadiums. [4]
Anti-corrosion properties
Aluminum's inherent corrosion protection results from the formation of a thin, strong oxide layer when the surface of aluminium comes into contact with air, which is particularly resistant to various forms of corrosion. The rare earth elements added to the alloy can further improve the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloys, especially electrochemical corrosion. Aluminum's ability to withstand harsh environments makes it widely used in conductors for cables in trays, as well as in many industrial components and containers. Corrosion is usually associated with the connection of different metals in a wet environment, and protective measures can be used to prevent corrosion, such as the use of lubricating oils, antioxidants, and protective coatings. Alkaline soils and some types of acidic soil environments are highly corrosive to aluminum, so aluminum conductors laid directly buried should be insulated or molded sheath to prevent corrosion. In sulphur-containing environments, such as railway tunnels and other similar places, aluminium alloys are much more resistant to corrosion than copper. [4]
Flexibility
Aluminum alloy has good bending performance, and its unique alloy formula and processing technology greatly improve the flexibility. Aluminum alloys are 30% more flexible and 40% less repulsive than copper. Generally, the bending radius of copper cable is 10~20 times the outer diameter, while the bending radius of aluminum alloy cable is only 7 times the outer diameter, which is easier to connect terminals. Most of the commonly used armored cables in China are armored with steel tape, with low safety level, and when they are subjected to external destructive force, their resistance is poor, which is easy to lead to breakdown, and the weight is heavy, the installation cost is quite high, and the corrosion resistance is poor, and the service life is not long. The metal interlocking armored cable we developed according to the American standard adopts the interlocking armor of aluminum alloy belt, and the interlocking structure between the layers ensures that the cable can withstand the strong destructive force of the outside world, even if the cable suffers from greater pressure and impact, the cable is not easy to be broken down, which improves the safety performance. At the same time, the armored structure isolates the cable from the outside world, even in the event of a fire, the armored layer improves the flame retardant and fire resistance level of the cable and reduces the risk factor of fire. Compared with steel belt armor, the aluminum alloy belt armor structure is light in weight, easy to lay, and can be installed without bridge, which can reduce the installation cost by 20%~40%. Compression characteristics
Considering the volume conductivity alone, aluminum alloy is not as good as copper, but the conductor we developed not only made improvements in material properties, but also made a big breakthrough in the process, we use unconventional pressing technology, so that the compression coefficient can reach 0.93, and the compression coefficient of the profiled wire can reach 0.95, which is the first in China. Through the maximum limit of compression, it can make up for the lack of volume conductivity of aluminum alloy, so that the core of the stranded conductor is like a solid conductor, which significantly reduces the outer diameter of the core and improves the conductivity, and the outer diameter of the conductor is only 10% larger than that of the copper cable under the same current carrying capacity.
Flame retardant properties
The insulation material of aluminum alloy cable is made of flame-retardant silane cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), and the self-locking armor structure is used in the process, and the heat dissipation performance is far better than that of the sheath of PVC material, which can quickly dissipate heat, and the flame can be quickly extinguished after the flame disappears, and will not delay other materials, and the flame retardant performance is extremely excellent. Aluminum alloy cables use new materials and new processes to ensure that they are safer to use.
